thrift star of the day: colorblocked

avocado
originally uploaded by avocado for wardrobe_remix

It definitely helps to be lanky and lean when colorblocking out sections of your entire body, but the color combinations and those faboo ankle boots from PAYLESS are too tight to be ignored.

BTW, kidlings - New Year, new site layout! It feels good to wipe the slate clean of all that was 2008. Whaddya think? I made it myself.

thrift star of the day: too, too terrific

tutu

A laissez-faire expression (slightly smudged eyeliner for good measure) is an essential accessory when donning a baby blue tutu. The balls!
Tres, tres chic.

thrift star yearbook: most likely to retain freshness

Have you noticed? Fashion just keeps getting faster and faster. Now that a pre-teen in Flint can so easily scope the latest in Singaporean street styles, the speed at which fashion changes seems directly related to the size of the swelling fashion blogosphere.

Painfully Hip is quickly approaching toddlerdom (our 2nd birthday is in about 2 months) and it really is amazing how much winter style has changed in such a short time. Even a lot of photos I chose last December look a tad dated to me. So here are some year-old favorites which actually have a shelf-life and still look pretty hip to me. Perhaps even painfully so.

One of my new years resolutions is to take my own advice to re-assess and maximize my wardrobe and perhaps finally start my own style journal (thanks, Diana!).

I don’t know about you guys, but I am most definitely looking forward to 2009. 2008 was like a scary rollercoaster - high highs, low lows, got my blood pumping, and boy am I’m glad its over. Happy to be alive, I’m going to spend the rest of the year scoping dolphins from a beach house in Santa Cruz and keeping my fingers crossed that the heat-seeking lightning bolt that is 2008 misses me one last time. On that note…

HAVE A HAP HAP HAPPY (and safe) NEW YEAR!

thrift star of the day: buttons’ got nothing on this

plaid coat
originally uploaded by marcinéma

Ever since my brother-in-law scored a pristine plaid mohair cardigan at Goodwill, I’ve been itching to get my arms into a coat just like this.

Adorable!

I imagine walking around in this outfit would garner lots of cheek-pinches from one’s elders.

thrift star of the day: olla olla olla

olla olla olla

This is my dear friend Olla. I haven’t see her for a while, but BOY HOWDY. She is sultry, squared in this demure, self-made frock. I expect that any second she’s about to break out in a Marilyn-shaming shimmy, leaving a legion of dizzy, swooning men in her wake.

Yowza. Apparently, it’s been brought.

This dress is so ready to party, its possible that Fluff Fox lost her control over its beruffled impulses.
Adorable.

thrift star of the day: guhhh…

That coat is dissolving my brain.

Or perhaps what’s making me loopy is the fact that I’ve been writing an article for the peerless SN&R, who gave me my very first actual news article, and none of this bull where I go “this is awesome” for 3 sentences and say bullocks to grammar, an actual 800 word report on winter fashion and local designers… then yesterday I had carte blanche on the styling and art direction of an entire full color photoshoot with hair and makeup of my imagining, featuring said designers of my choosing, and four gorgeous models of my dressing - mixing and matching pieces from three AMAZING collections…

Yes, this coat is face-meltingly cute, but I think after yesterday nothing will ever thrill me quite the same way again.

I get published on Christmas day. Pretty sweet to have this dream ticked off the list.

I’m always pretty sure that the reason I love every outfit on Jessica’s blog is because besides being gorgeous, she has THOSE LEGS. Gah, they make infinity suddenly seem fathomable. Especially in this hardcore AMAZING vintage mini dress. Can somebody please give me a reason to go on living?
K, thanks.

lace tunic

Until now I couldn’t put a finger on the one thing that was leaving a black hole in my wardrobe… I’m missing a lace tunic with the precise cut of an oversized mens t-shirt. Duh…

Although riding a horse in a skintight mini skirt would be… if not impossible, improprietous, I do adore this outfit and its utilization of function as form. Cayooot!
